PREVIEW v Carlton Athletic

Wetherby Travel To Play League Leaders.

Mark Forster takes his side into Leeds on Saturday to play league leaders Carlton Athletic in this latest round of West Yorkshire Premier League Matches. The game is scheduled for a 2:30pm kick-off and he weather should be light cloud.

It’s safe to say that it’s not been the best of starts, point wise, for the Tangerines, but we have seen some excellent play from the team and as they gel, we are confident that the results will come.

Last weekend’s 5-1 drubbing by Horbury was seen as the worst performance that we have given so far and both players and management will be determined that it won’t happen again. However, they face a tough challenge in the form of the current league leaders.

Carlton Athletic have had a superb start to the season and are the only team in the league to be able to boast that they haven’t dropped a point yet. Their last match saw then easily overcome Shelley FC with an impressive 6-3 scoreline.

Looking at the form table over the past five league matches shows that it, in theory, should be another win for the home side, but as we know football is an unpredictable beast at the best of times!

The last time that we played Carlton, it was a goal fest with seven goals being registered. Unfortunately, we still ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline! (see match report here).

Looking at the Wetherby Athletic Database, we have played Carlton a total of 11 times since 2007 and its honours to Carlton I’m afraid with 7 wins to our 4! The last time that we recorded a victory over them was in December 2012, when we beat them 3-0 in the West Yorkshire Premier League (goals from P.Hustwit, A.Lockhart and J.Webb).

Looking at the FA website, it would appear that both teams are suspension free and have pretty healthy squads to choose from.

The referee for this match will be Mr Michael Coles. Mr Coles will be assisted by Mr John Murray and Mr Jason Miller.

Should you wish to come and watch the game, the address you will need is Carlton Cricket Club, Town Street, Carlton, WF3 3QU.
